iPad-Experiences #1: A Not So Easy Way To Add Bookmarklets To Safari For iPad …

Once I got my hands on the pad, I quickly realized I could no longer function without my beloved bookmarklets. I found myself surfing in a way that mimicked my desktop browsing behavior much more closely than when I browsed on the iPhone.  This meant that I now needed to have my bookmarklets for sharing, posting, tagging, saving, look-ups, etc. But the steps for adding a bookmarklet on the iPad was the same as with the iPhone — an awful one.

Frustration : I do exactly understand, what Chris means … When starting using the iPad on thursday, the first thing I missed were my bookmarklets. I am a heavy user of „Share on Posterous“, clipping on Evernote for later use and I am leveraging the Hootlet-bookmarklet extensively for posting simultaneously on different Twitter-accounts and Facebook. (By the way: Did somebody get the Hootlet-bookmarklet running in a convenient way in Safari on the iPad?).

Thanks to Chris and his work I got Posterous, Evernote and Instapaper configured and working on the iPad. But honestly: I was a bit frustrated. I was expecting such functionality to work out-of-the-box on a tablet like the iPad, but it looks like there are some real gaps for people, who do extensively use Web 2.0-functionality. Just my first impression. Ask me in some weeks, how I do feel about it then.

Positive remark#1: In terms of „Verarbeitung“ (Quality of construction) of the iPad: A few month ago I went to the Notebook-shop in Darmstadt considering to buy an Asus eeePC running Linux: Well, I feel miles between the „Verarbeitung“ of the iPad and the Asus. The Asus jsut feels lousy in comparison …

More to come.

And looking forward to your experience and comments.
